PASTE
This piece is hand done with gouache paint and ink. In it, I explored various typefaces. It also has a relation to the TEKANAN post. Here you can see parts an pieces of the sentence "there are no diamonds without the tekanan".

TEKANAN
Exploring type, we had to take a foreign, or 'strange' word and portray its meaning using only the word itself. I chose the word TEKANAN which is Indonesian for PRESSURE.
This piece was done by hand with ink.
We then had to put the word in a sentence. I chose the sentence "there are no diamonds without the tekanan". I changed it a bit and cropped it to reveal the following:
The layout of this piece also shows how the words "not without the" puts pressure on the word TEKANAN.
This piece was also done by hand using ink.

Helvetica
This Movie poster was done while exploring the Helvetica typeface. Studying the history of Helvetica, I turned the typeface into a movie star (the silhouette of the woman n a dress in the red circle). On the movie poster it also reveals a bit of Helvetica's history, created by Max Miedinger and Eduard Hoffman.
The poste also has a Swiss design element because Helvetica was created in Switzerland.

THE MAN
The skulls are symbolic for the 3 most generalised aspects of man:
The brain which is like that of a monkey,
The heart which is like that of a crow,
And then the tiger/lion ways in bed.

HIDDEN
Done in charcoal. The idea here is that nude poses create a masked "dead" facial expression for the poser.
Nobody knows what's hidden behind the mask.
Nobody knows what's hidden behind the mask.
THE SANDMAN
A spray-paint tester which by chance came out looking like it has 2 legs and 2 arms. So I called the creature the Sandman.
NO HATE
This is just an idea of protest. No hate against *you fill in the gaps*.
It is done with ink on paper.

PORTRAIT
This is a flat portrait I did of my older sister with water paint and pen on paper. It is also currently in my Visual Journal.
B&W
This is the first cutout I did containing words. It also symbolises the ratio of South Africa. This is done with only paper.
WINGED MAN
The Winged Man was just a little doodle I did in my Visual Journal with ink.

AFRICA
This is a rather personal irritation of mine. Yes. Exactly what the message says.
This piece in my Visual journal is also done with ink on paper.

DRAW OFF
This is Camilla Rossi, a fellow design student and friend of mine. One day in class we decided that we were going to have a draw off of each other in a very stylized manner. This is how she came out.

TARANTULA
...Another one of me holding a tarantula... Yes I do have one. This self portrait is also done in charcoal.
POKER FACE
This is another charcoal self portrait portraying a facial expression accompanying an action. Poker it is!
HEAVY LIFTING
This is a selfportrait study done with charcoal (for some practice). In this one I had to portray a facial expression, and an action accompanying the facial expression...like the title suggests.
IN THE MAKING!
This is me working on the first panel of GATHERERS. Here one can see the scale of the illustration relative to me.

GATHERERS
This right here was my great illustration project in 2011. It is about poverty and how children are forced to fend for themselves as beggars when their parents are laying in their deathbeds because of HIV/Aids. An urban mundane situation typical in South Africa.
Each panel is 1x2m.
Medium is charcoal on paper.
